Soothing effect of reading "Aranyak"

Last week after 22 years i again read "Aranyak" a novel by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. First time i read this novel was during the high school days , some of its excerpt were part of our syllabus. At that time i found this book was captivating but fail to get the depth of it , this time after reading it, after a week also, i have the trance of that book. This is the reason this book is still very widely read.

This book is about a young guy who is working as a manager for a local landlord during early 20th century in Northern part of Bihar, India. The majority of the book deals with the natural beauty of the forest which was untamed at that time and the places like 'lobotuliya', 'saraswati kunj' and so many other places and the simple people. In one place the author says that he is hesitant to ask people and start converting those jungle to a human colonies , because of the beauty of the nature. He is suggesting that if India would have better resource like America, Europe , then these kind of jungles should have turned to "national park". I was amazed to realize that without internet and media at that time also well-read people ( like author himself ) were aware of the national park across the globe. This reflects the vision of the author.

In another part of the book, author explains that the original indian civilization was with the people whom were called "Anarjya", while he met the tribal king 'Dagru Panna' and his grand daughter 'Bhanumati' he was amazed to realized that the same tribe were staying in this jungle before the Alexander invaded India, before the different invaders came to India even before the "Aarjya" came to India and started living there forever. I was also impressed to see the determination of the character "Kuntha", a daughter of a courtesan, married to a Rajput and became a widow with small kids , she never leave her moral and honesty while she faced heavy pressure from the poverty.

The book ends while most of the jungle started living by the humans who came from the different places. Jungle and wild live continues to get lost because of us. If we wont change our aggression then we will see more unwanted changes around us soon.
